Make the most of your winter holiday

  • Uusikaupunki invites you to enjoy its offering of winter sports. Grab a snow slider and visit one of the city's many sledding hills, glide on the ice of the well-maintained outdoor ice rinks or try out the ski tracks inspired by the Olympics. There are activities for people of all ages and physical activity levels!

Now is the time to make the most of the last days of winter before spring arrives. Whether you like hiking or sledding, you’re sure to find the perfect winter outdoor activity for you in Uusikaupunki.

Slap shots and pirouettes

Pack your skates and some snacks with you and hop on the outdoor ice! The city has several lit ice rinks, both with and without hockey rinks. Take a group of friends to Pietola for some casual hockey or to the Männäinen rink to practice skating with the youngest members of your family.

Pack your own sausages and marshmallows for your trip to Haapaniemi – there is a campfire area next to the rink where you can sit down and enjoy a nice snack break.

You can find all the ice rinks in Uusikaupunki and their addresses: ice skating. If spring weather should surprise you, you can check out the common public skating times:  Jää-Kotkat website

Ski tracks and lean-tos

We have excellent tracks that meet the requirements of aspiring Olympic medalists and beginners alike. The tracks are suited for both demanding professional training and laid-back recreational skiing. Outdoor ski tracks with different track profiles can be found in the Kivimäki track, which is also suitable for beginners and located near the city centre, and in the more challenging terrains of Hakametsä and Lokalahti.

If the weather conditions are good, there will be easy and short practice tracks for children, for example, in Sorvakko in the field near the Veneranta parking area and in the field behind the ice rink.

The condition of the ski tracks is dependent on the weather conditions. Before tying your ski boots, you should therefore check the situation: ski sracks. You can also easily check the condition of the local ski tracks in the Sports Tracker app.

Fortunately, you can go skiing on the one-kilometre-long Vahterusring indoor track in any weather.

Joys of the sledding hill

Sleds, sliders and bobsleighs are often put up next to the wall already when the first snow falls to be ready for when the weather is right for sledding. What could be more fun than hopping on your sled and just ploughing through the snow at full speed!

In Uusikaupunki, there are suitable hills for downhill skiing in, for example, Leijonapuisto, Myllymäki, near Santtio beach and near the Saarnisto playground.
